Facebook’s Promote Button: You’ll Pay To Be Important!

What’s next, I have to pay to post on my friend’s wall?

Facebook says I should pay to be important.
Facebook says I should pay to be important.

Facebook has begun restricting the amount of exposure a post gets, according to rampant complaints posted on the worlds most popular social networking website, to a measly 15% of a Page’s “fans”. In order to gain more exposure for their posts they must Promote them; that is, create a Facebook Ad and pay for advertising. Apparently, the same is also true of your own personal page, as I have found this evening when I noticed I now have a Promote link under my status update.

What this means in the long-term, I’m not sure. But, I cannot believe the majority of Facebook’s users are going to appreciate having to pay Facebook to make sure everyone on their list gets that Happy Holidays eCard link they posted.
